Thistle eventually work

It's hard when you have an artistic vision but just can't get your medium to create what you can see so clearly in your mind. I'm still trying to weave an abstract-ish piece inspired by a thistle. I  simplified my original sketch and wove two slightly different versions and I'm dissatisfied with both. I like the colors of the lighter version best, but the proportions and color changes still aren't quite right. I'll be ripping out both to try again. In the next iteration I'm going to simplify the shapes even more. Perhaps overlapping circles.

I was hoping to find some guidance on tapestry weaving with fabric. After searching every combination of terms I could think of I came up with nothing.  It seems like I can use some of the same principals as in finer tapestry weaving, but I'm running into problems because I'm not creating a weft faced fabric. Instead, my rug is a more balanced weave structure.

Lessons learned and try again.
