We're Going to Hollywood
A few months ago I acquired a second large loom for the studio, a Leclerc Nilus. It's a 4-shaft loom, so now I can add an additional element to my floor rugs, a weave structures besides plain weave, also known as tabby.
I've already experimented with a popular threading known as Rosepath for a long hall runner. This week I finished warping the Nilus with another traditional rug threading known as Hollywood. I did break from traditional slightly, though. Instead of using a contrast thread for the selvedge bands on each side, I intentionally stuck with my unbleached, undyed rug warp. Anything that uses less chemical processing is a better approach in my book.
I wound about 20 yards of warp, so I should be able to weave at least a dozen 24-inch wide rag rugs for the next shop update.
